Medically known as acrochordons, skin tags are what usually occurs when skin cell deposits are made on the body after two areas of skin have touched for a great deal of time. Skin tags can affect anyone and whilst 99.9% of the time they cause no problems what so ever in terms of your health, they can be frustrating and unsightly. People with skin tags can find them annoying if their clothing grabs them or if they catch the skin tag when moving about.
Thankfully, for anyone who does have a skin tag, they can be removed with relative ease and you can even remove them on your own depending on the size and severity of the tag. Let’s take a look at some of the ways in which you can get rid of that unsightly skin tag.
Professional
Before doing anything with your skin tag, it is important that you go to see a professional in order to have it reviewed. As mentioned before, skin tags are rarely a concern medically speaking but it always worth going to see a dermatologist to find out for sure.
If all is well then a doctor can cut off your skin tag with some surgical scissors in a painless and quick procedure or they can freeze the skin tag which will kill the supply of blood and the tag will slowly die and fall off.
Oils and Remedies
There are some oils and remedies which can be used to kill the skin tag and although these have never been medically approved, they have been known to work for many people. Aloe vera, oregano oil and tea tree oil have all worked in the past and after 2 months of applications of either one of these oils, the skin tag will significantly soften and eventually fall off. Using this process requires you to be consistent when applying and it will of course take a lot longer than other methods.
Ligation
One of the best ways in which you can get rid of your skin tag on your own at home is to use a procedure called ligation. In order to do this, you need to tie a piece of thread or string of cotton around the base of the skin tag and tie it off. Once you have done this, the skin tag’s blood supply will be cut off and the tag will dry up and die. The only problem with this method is that it can sometimes leave a nub behind and so you should also ensure that you are applying a moisturizing skin cream which will help to remove any evidence that the tag was there.
Warnings
Don’t ever try to cut the skin tag off at home as this could lead to any number of problems including severe infections. Before you do anything with your skin tag, make sure that you seek medical help to make sure that it is nothing which you should be worried about, once you have done this, you can look at ways in which you can get rid of your skin tag for good.
